Day 2 :Genocide Memorila Visit & Akagera National Park - Night Game Drive
After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center. Later proceed to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, you will proceed to check in at Ruzizi Tented Camp followed by your lunch and then depart for an afternoon game drive in the park.
Today after your breakfast, you will go for a boat excursion on Lake Ihema, which will take you to the island that is inhabitant to several species of birds. Lining the lakes are some of the continent’s densest concentrations of water birds, while the connecting marshes are the haunt of the endangered and exquisite papyrus gonolek, and the bizarre shoebill stork - the latter perhaps the most eagerly sought of all African birds. After your boat excursion you will continue with game drive and have picnic lunches.
Today, you will have relaxed breakfast at the hotel, settle extras and check out for a road transfer to Musanze. Arrive and check in at the HOTEL followed by your lunch.
This afternoon you will have a guided walk in one of the local villages to experience how daily activities are carried out like cultivating, basket weaving, local bee keeping, curving, butter churning etc. Return to hotel.
Early breakfast at the hotel then transfer you to the start point of your guided. Here, your amazing adventure begins.
The largest Gorilla group or family ever studied is in Rwanda and was led by Cantsbee (died in 2017). This was the oldest known mountain gorilla in the whole world. A gorilla family is led by a silverback. These troops also include several younger males, adult and juvenile females, and infants. In addition to providing protection to group members, silverbacks maintain order and decide all activities within their troop. They schedule feeding trips, resting time, and travel. They also father the majority of the young in the group.
After this memorable experience, you will return to the hotel in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure.
Today, you have an early breakfast, check out and settle extras. Transfer to the park headquarters for Golden monkey trekking briefing which starts at 07h00. We will then transfer you to the start point of your guided walk that begins at 08h00. The Tracking usually takes about 4 hrs. Once you come to the habituated families, you will spend the allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life.
Return and you will have lunch at the hotel. This evening you have an option to visit the Karisoke Research Center (free).
Breakfast at the hotel; depart for Nyungwe through Kibuye with spectacular views of Lake Kivu. Arrive at One and Only Nyungwe House. You will be met by the resort staff and guided to the reception. Assisted with check in, followed by a sumptuous hot lunch. Afternoon you have complementary brochure activities at the lodge i.e. spear throwing, cycling, natures boot camp, nature walks etc
This evening you will have a traditional tea ceremony at the lodge.
You will enter into the forest when its dark but you will be able to see primate species such as Colobus monkeys, forest birds and later, you will be able to see the chimpanzees when its already day time.
After the chimpanzee trekking, you will return to the lodge for an early lunch. After you will be driven to your guided canopy walk. The Canopy walkway consists of three bridges and three towers and is a total length of the walkway is160m.The walkway is embedded in a guided tour along Igishigishigi Trail. Taking this tour, a specialized Park Guide will not only show you the forest canopy but also explain why it is an integral part of the tropical rainforest ecosystem.
Breakfast at the lodge check out and transfer to the park headquarter for briefing at 07h00 before your start your colobus monkey walk at 08h00.
These are black with white ornaments and in case you observe them with in the forest as you track them, you will be amazed how large the group is, these are over 350 to 400 individuals in a group comprising the largest group of the Angolan Colobus Monkeys in Africa. The trek of these monkeys is not as tireless as the chimpanzee trek tends to be and the pure number of them with in the tree tops, the chat of this group delights the guests including their messy eating habits that also help spread the seed of the fruit that they are eating in the forest. Lunch enroute proceed to Kigali arriving later afternoon and check in at the Hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel, check out you will be driven to Question Coffee café for a Master class session. The class begins with where coffee transforms from a seed into a fruitbearing tree—the farm. Our cafe features a coffee thriving garden that is representative of a classic Rwandan coffee farm, we’ll explain the steps that go into coffee agronomy and harvesting. After you’ve learned about coffee agronomy, harvested ripe cherries and tasted the sweet coffee fruit, you’ll de-pulp your harvest and learn how it’s processed in order to be ready for roasting
You will transfer to Pili Pili for your lunch. Afternoon you have time to do some shopping in craft centers for viewing and purchasing souvenirs i.e Kaplaki, Gahaya links, House of Tayo etc.
Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your outbound flight.
